World Whisky of The Year Runner Up (judged from over 3,800 whiskies), The Ileach Cask Strength is the big brother The Ileach - 'The Man from Islay", a revered single malt whose distillery on Islay remains the secret of the brand owner, The Highland & Island Scotch Whisky Company.


Scoring an incredibly high score of 97/100 in the 2008 The Whisky Bible, the single malt ranked 2nd out of more than 3,800 whiskies tasted in The Whisky Bible.


The Highland & Island Scotch Whisky Company, along with the associated Vintage Malt Whisky Company, specialise in bottling single malt whiskies for specialist independent spirit merchants throughout the world.

OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES
Nose: A thick chunk of peat has been dissolved in my glass!

Palate: The oil–peat-barley balance is spot on as is the bitter sweet tone: just stunning.

Finish: The peat dissipates slowly to leave a slightly bitterish oaky influence but the spices compensate.

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY


The HIghlands & Islands Scotch Whisky Company, the brand owner of The Ileach' was founded in 1992 by Brian Crook, an honours graduate in Food Science with twenty years experience in the malt whisky industry, latterly as Export Director for one of Scotland's principal distillers. The aim was to produce a range of malt whiskies from Scotland's finest distilleries and to make them available to independent wine and spirit importers throughout the world.

One hundred years ago there were over one hundred and twenty malt whisky distilleries throughout Scotland, independently owned and producing malts of rare character from the Highlands, Islands and Lowlands. Today probably only seventy or eighty still produce malt whisky on a regular basis, and of these, only a handful are owned by family companies. The vast majority of malts available from Scotland today are produced by multi-national companies, so the opportunity for family companies worldwide to deal with small, independent scotch whisky distillers has virtually gone. It is to fill this gap that HIghlands & Islands Scotch Whisky Company was formed.
