OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES
Colour: Ripe Golden Barley
Nose: An initial rush of vanilla sweetness gives way to the fruits of slow distillation - kiwi, banana, cantaloupe melon - with a dusting of cocoa powder. It is complex and yet the aromas are in harmony with the malt
Palate: Cinnamon adds a spicy edge to the soft and sweet texture. Classic Arran citrus notes reveal a new depth of character against a background of sweet oak.
Finish: Drifts over the tongue like golden syrup and fades slowly
ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Isle of Arran Distillery was the first legal distillery to open on the Isle of Arran for 150 years and is one of the few remaining independent distilleries in Scotland.
The Distillery opened in 1995 in a purpose made building, but uses only traditional methods of distilling with wooden washbacks and copper stills. There is no peat used in the production process, no caramel added for artificial colouring and Arran Single Malts are also non-chill filtered. The water for the whisky comes from Loch na Davie, in the hills overlooking the distillery.
During construction of the distillery, a pair of Golden Eagles built their nest on a nearby cliff, and as they are a protected species, construction of the distillery was temporarily halted. The visitor centre was opened in 1997 by HM the Queen, who was given a cask of whisky for Prince William and Prince Harry. The first Whisky was released in 1998.
