PENDERYN CELT

Penderyn Celt was a 2015 addition to the Welsh Whisky Company’s Penderyn range of single malts.  After maturing in American oak (ex-Bourbon) casks Celt is finished with further maturation in ex-Scotch whisky casks from Islay to introduce peatiness to the spirit.

OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES
Nose: Mild aromas of peat smoke, rocky seashores and warm marmalade-on-toast.
Palate: Great sweetness then smoky, slightly medicinal flavours.
Finish: Slight bitterness followed by a long lingering freshness.

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Penderyn Distillery is the only distillery in Wales and one of the smallest distilleries in the World, with a visitor centre that has been opened since 2008.

It is one of only a few independent distilleries and takes its name from the old Welsh village in which it is located and nestles in the foothills of the ancient Brecon Beacons mountain range, which is recognised by UNESCO.

The water used in distilling and blending comes from Penderyns own water source and a single copper still is used for its malted barley spirit. Initial maturation is in ex-Boubon barrels with re-casking in ex-Madeira or a range of finishes in Oloroso Sherry, Vintage Port and the occasional old Islay Whisky barrel.

Each day, just one cask of malted barley spirit is produced; most of the spirit goes for ageing in Penderyns Cellars. The whisky is distilled, matured and bottled at the distillery.
