The water used in distilling and blending comes from Penderyns' own water source and a single copper still is used for it's malted barley spirit.
Penderyn Distillery is the only distillery in Wales and one of the smallest distilleries in the World.
It is one of only a few independant distilleries and takes it's name from the old Welsh village in which it is located and nestles in the foothills of the ancient Brecon Beacons mountain range.
OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES
Nose: Fresh apples and citrus fruits mingle with cream fudge and sultanas to create a complex, but fresh clean and well balanced whisky.
Palate: Incredibly smooth with both fresh and dried fruits, delicate and sweet with a hint of bitterness.
Finish: Long, leaving an aftertaste of madeira cake and sultanas.
ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Penderyn Distillery is the only distillery in Wales and one of the smallest distilleries in the World, with it's visitor centre opening in 2008.
It is one of only a few independant distilleries and takes it's name from the old Welsh village in which it is located and nestles in the foothills of the ancient Brecon Beacons mountain range, which is recognised by UNESCO.
The water used in distilling and blending comes from Penderyns' own water source and a single copper still is used for it's malted barley spirit. Initial maturation is in ex-Boubon barrels with re-casking in ex-Madeida or a range of finishes in Oloroso Sherry, Vintage Port and the occassional old Islay Whisky barrel.
Affectionatley known as Welsh Gold ('Aur Cymru'), it is said Penderyn whisky is as rare and prescious as Celtic jewellery worn by old Welsh Princes and Royalty.
Each day, just one cask of malted barley spirit is produced, most of the spirit goes for ageing in Penderyns' Cellars. Penderyn Whisky is distilled, matured and bottled at the distillery.
