1. Tomintoul Tlàth Speyside Single Malt (40%)
Full bottle price – £30
Pronounced ‘Tlah’, Tlàth means gentle or mellow in Gaelic. And with this single malt, that’s exactly what you get. Aged exclusively in bourbon barrels, it boasts notes of sweet toffee, vanilla, white pepper and nutmeg, and is light and creamy on the palate. Quintessentially Speyside.
It’s the ideal after-dinner dram. Take one sip and settle down to watch your favourite festive film.
2. Edradour Aged 10 Years Highland Single Malt (40%)
Full bottle price – £45
Made at a small distillery in Edradour, this is an endearingly unique single malt.
Aged in a combination of Oloroso sherry and bourbon barrels, it’s very rum-like – with delicious notes of barley and toasted almonds. And is complemented by a thick, oily mouthfeel.
Something different to try alongside the cheeseboard.
3. Tomatin Aged 12 Years Highland Single Malt (43%)
Full bottle price – £45
This is the perfect luxury treat for Christmas eve.
A classically smooth, distinguished dram. Having matured in traditional Scotch whisky, ex-bourbon and ex-Spanish sherry casks, this is a full-bodied single malt – with aromas of wild heather, pine and cedar, notes of crème caramel, apples, pears and mango and a rich and buttery finish.
Get cosy in front of the fire and indulge.
4. Finlaggen Islay Scotch Single Malt (40%)
Full bottle price – £32
Finlaggen is the ‘secret’ single malt, crafted at an unnamed distillery on the island of Islay. Yet, whilst its origins are shrouded in mystery, it has everything you’d expect from a traditional Islay whisky. The aromas and flavours of peat, smoke, dried barley – and the Scottish sea shore.
Too good to share or leave out for Santa. Keep the secret and enjoy this one for yourself.
5. Strathcolm Lowland Scottish Single Grain (40%)
Full bottle price – £25
This is a no age statement release from Angus Dundee’s Strathcolm single grain whisky range. Matured in ex-bourbon casks, it’s an interesting dram – displaying the light floral character that’s typical of grain whiskies, with the added spice, toffee and vanilla notes from the barrel.
It’s light, easy-going and flavourful. One to look forwards to on Boxing Day.
