More Details

This Distillery bottling of 18 year old Arran Malt has been produced using unpeated malted barley matured in Sherry casks, which has helped create a beautifully rounded and well balanced single malt. The Isle of Arran Distillery itself was named Scottish Distiller of the year in 2007, and in 2005 won The Queen's Award for Enterprise - the highest business honour in the UK.

The addition of the 18 year old to Arran’s core range followed a trilogy of limited editions at 16, 17 and 18 years old.  The distillery opened in 1995 and, on release in 2016, the 18 year old became the distillery’s oldest single malt.

Nose: Sweet orchard fruits with syrup & toasted oak. Vanilla and light cinnamon.
Palate: Sweetness with chocolate, ginger, caramelised brown sugar and vanilla.
Finish: Long, lingering. Citrus & orchard fruits mingle with milk brioche and dark chocolate.

Isle of Arran Distillery was the first legal distillery to open on the Isle of Arran for 150 years and is one of the few remaining independent distilleries in Scotland.

The Distillery opened in 1995 in a purpose made building, but uses only traditional methods of distilling with wooden washbacks and copper stills. There is no peat used in the production process, no caramel added for artificial colouring and Arran Single Malts are also non-chill filtered. The water for the whisky comes from Loch na Davie, in the hills overlooking the distillery.

During construction of the distillery, a pair of Golden Eagles built their nest on a nearby cliff, and as they are a protected species, construction of the distillery was temporarily halted. The visitor centre was opened in 1997 by HM the Queen, who was given a cask of whisky for Prince William and Prince Harry. The first Whisky was released in 1998.
