18 Year Old Glen Keith
Speyside Scotch Whisky
A hard-to-find single malt from one of Scotland's long-lost distilleries, Glen Keith is unusual to find as a single malt for the the added reason that the whisky from this distillery was mostly used for making premium blended Scotch whisky. The distillery, too, has an interesting history - which you may see in more detail in the distillery information on our site.

From a limited edition of just 311 full-sized bottles, this Glen Keith was distilled in 1993 and aged in a single oak barrel for 18 years.

The Glen Keith single malt is from the 'Old Malt Cask' range of Single Malt Single Cask Scotch whiskies, a range of premium strength single cask Scotch whiskies for the connoisseur. It is a brand from by the independent family-owned Scotch whisky blender and bottler Douglas Laing & Co. Douglas Laing, a specialist company which was formed in 1948 by the father of the current owners.

Old Malt Cask whiskies such as this Glen Keith are bottled in a traditional manner using no artificial colouring or flavouring, preserving all the natural oils, fats and enzymes that combine to give the quality of the nose, palate, mouth-feel and finish.

Nose: Fresh and fruitily sweet, with fresh home-made shortbread and sweet melon.

Palate: Barley sugar running to a sweet orange/lime zest style.

Finish: Still fresh, fruity and zesty, replicating the nose and palate.

Glen Keith, or sometimes written 'Glenkeith', was founded by Chivas Brothers in 1957 as an experimental laboratory and designed for triple distillation - a practice more usual for lowland distilleries to create a lighter distillate - then reduced to the more traditional double distillation process in 1970.

Glen Keith is seldom available as a single malt as the distillery's production is used for blended whisky, in particular Glen Keith malt is a major component of the Passport blend.

Mothballed since 2000, the distillery sits on bank of the river Isla – just across from the Strathisla distillery which is operated by the same owner. The site is now used as a warehouse for whisky.
